IPCC releases Special Report on global warming of 1.5 degrees

On October 8 2018 the Intergovernmental Panel (IPCC) released its Special Report on the Global Warming of 1.5 degrees. Kirsten Zickfeld, a lead author of the report, commented on the report’s finding in numerous interviews. She says the world is at a "critical juncture" if it is to avoid a potentially devastating rise in global mean temperature.

Kirsten Zickfeld attended the First Lead Author Meeting for the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in Guangzhou, China. Kirsten will work with an international team on the Carbon Cycle chapter of the report.

2017 President’s Prize of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society

Lab Director Kirsten Zickfeld was awarded the 2017 President’s Prize of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS) for her paper 2009 “Setting cumulative emissions to reduce the risk of dangerous climate change”, which was one of the first to introduce the carbon budget concept.

Congratulations to former lab member Kasia Tokarska for winning the Tertia M.C. Hughes Memorial Graduate Student Prize of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS) for her thesis “The carbon-climate system response at high amounts of cumulative carbon emissions, and the role of non-CO2 forcing and observational constraints on cumulative carbon budgets” at the University of Victoria.

Kirsten Zickfeld attended the Fourth Lead Author Meeting of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 degrees in Gaborone, Botswana. Authors started work on the final draft of the report, which will be released in October.
